One tiny resting place - big journey
Appreciating our present spot and the
distant call. Relaxed wings at the ready.
Current is a welcomed friend and
blessed energy birds ride with the wind
like a wave on the ocean.
Perfect order cushions their landing.
The line between fumble and clear reasoning.
A thin twig is a safe lookout when one
recalls that soaring is an option in every moment.
Gravity’s bouquet always blooms and is
right there waiting to be grabbed.

Current Affair

Current Affair

There are few things more intriguing than the simple movement of water. Be it the ocean, swimming pool, a fountain with light or swirling in your glass; water is life and holds plenty of power. Current Affair the image is part of my Water Words collection. The poem below, was published by Writers and Readers Magazine UK. Enjoy!

Current Affair
Beverly M. Collins

Water’s eyes can change from blue to black.
It can stare directly into the sun until the
sun fades from its gaze like a challenger
that retreats.

Waters long tongue can lick the back walls of
under ocean caves like an ant-eater on a quest
to plunder. Yet, pull away with its hunger intact.
Remember, ponds can settle to complete stillness,
like a mirror for the heavens to dress itself to,
and fane obedience…until touched.

Which way is up? Just ask water!
If angered by heat, water can “ghost” landscapes,
swirl within a circle of clouds then dive earthbound
And join a new river whenever it pleases.
Where would we be without water?

Probably on Mars. Camped like nomads in worship
Of water crystals near some upper region with spoons,
dippers and all of our thimbles-of-hope.

Edge of Evening

Edge of Evening

Let's tune into the simplicity of the Edge of Evening.
This is where the thick of the day subsides where ease
calls to us softly. This is the time for our favorite chair
or the time to unwind if we allow ourselves to. The poem
below is dedicated to this time and the image that I captured
on a simple evening stroll one day.

Edge of Evening

Glow reaches out to me from
around the silhouette of naked
branches like a hug from warm
light.

Both myself and first tiny buds
from the new season hang and
wait for the further bloom of
sweet process that is always
unfolding.

We pause and face the soft light
that caress us from beyond the
clouds. A touch so tender all day
unnoticed until right now!

Blue Wonder

Blue Wonder

As I snapped photos recently in a large garden, I became amused by the sweet curiosity of a lovely bird that moved itself about the garden as it watched me. I was not sure what had captured its interest.
Maybe it was the sound of the shutter on the camera set on high-speed-continuous. Whatever it was, the curious bird with marvelous blue feathers on its head, moved from branch to bush to branch as it spied my moves and inspired the poem below called…

Blue Wonder

Cool black are your eyes as they
Inspect my afternoon stroll through
Rows of flower bushes, budding trees
And pirate winds. They assist your wings
As you dart from one exploratory look
out point and into the next like a beautiful
winged bandit on nature’s back alley with
adaptive senses ready to steal one
sparkling peek and then another.

Netted Nature

Netted Nature

Scientific research has revealed that spider webs have been around for more than 100 million years. According to Wikipedia, the web assist spiders in not only catching their prey; webs help spiders float through the air, wrap their food once it is captured. Webs also helps to cocoon their nest, protect their offspring and provide them a quick snack if needed since the web itself is made out of protein.

The Netted Nature image is a shot of what appears to be a communal spider web covering a small bush. The web was very visible after a rainstorm. Below is a poem from my book Mud in Magic (Moonrise Press). The poem is entitled, Stitches...Enjoy!

Stitches
Beverly M. Collins

Day three in my corner
next to the door near
soft sofa-quiet progress.

I knit as family moves around me.
Their day swollen with bustling
activity...

I stitch in one direction then the
other. Stop for late afternoon room
temperature snack-no extra salt,
few additives.

Then back to knitting waiting
later listening to family discussions
haggling whose turn to clear he dishes.
Listen to young Tony struggle with homework.

Their laughter-sadness-secrets are like
particles in the air and fall like dust on
my knitting.

Day four I am greeted by hand of
fate. Fickle hand holds a spray bottle.
Its mist paralyzes, burns my eight eyes
brings poisonous end to my stitches.

Milky Dream

Milky Dream

Today, we celebrate all the wavey edges of dreams. How they can be full of messages that we need to decode. Dreams can feel so real and illogical. Below is a poem about one such dream. I have attempted to capture its feel in the image Milky Dream. Enjoy...

Milky Dream
Beverly M. Collins

Caught in echoes, I could not move for
all the unsaid words that weighted.
They attached-anchored at my feet.
More words pressed heavy against my lungs

I then floated from one room into another.
Sailed like a ghost from my past life.
There stood a taller me, A not-so-tangled-
in-empty-cravings-me. The me clearly
heard by those who count deeply in my
heart's center.

In the air, my right hand beckoned to
whom I was not sure. In the distance,
They floated yet rolled in measured circles.
Their eyes tearful with sad laughter, they shined
a smile so familiar on a mouth unnamed.

I reached, touched a pale blue ceiling.
Held my ear to it. Listened for the feet of answers
that trotted, promised strongly and delivered an
ache that promises often do. There was a screen
that filled the air with milky needy dust. It too
formed into...

Cover Squirrel

Cover Squirrel

Today’s blog is in appreciation of the Squirrel. Although they are categorized as a rodent by mankind, these cute creatures can be a joy to watch and (in my experience) very friendly and trusting if they like a person’s energy. There are all different types of squirrels; ones that burrow, called Ground squirrels appear to have a thinner tail and body than the fluffy tailed tree squirrel featured here in the “Cover Squirrel” image. There is also the fascinating flying squirrel with its flaps of skin that allow it to glide. Overall, I believe we could greatly benefit from simply remembering that all of the creatures on our planet have a purpose and not associate them with an imagined negative label. Enjoy this little critter as it “strikes-a-pose!”

The Grasshopper King

The Grasshopper King

Today we highlight the image of “The Grasshopper King.” This interesting critter has a marked difference in its behavior when alone verses when it becomes part of the “Locust swarm.” Here, the grasshopper is shown at its best; calm and at rest as it takes in the sight of the setting sun. How many of you knew that a grasshopper’s ears are located on its abdomen or that grasshoppers can make their own brand of music by rustling their legs and through the movement of their wings? Did you know that, according the scientific evidence (and much like the dragonfly) grasshoppers appeared on earth prior to the dinosaurs?

So we take this moment to celebrate the Grasshopper King as he sits regally upon his twig throne and graciously surveys his kingdom.

Sudden Ripple

Sudden Ripple

Waves are powerful! Rather they are seen or movements within the unseen. Once a wave leaves its source point, the effects are inevitable.

Sudden Ripple is a visual reminder that each one of us, emits constant vibrations that move in all directions. I personally love how beautifully the surface of water shows itself. Even the smallest fluctuation can be visually tracked as it moves, bounces into other vibrations, continues a pattern or shifts into a new trajectory from the very tiniest tap. Remember that you are your own powerhouse. What are you sending as your signal?

(Haiku for you)
Caught between pink rays
Light and dark dance with green-
Ripple’s sudden birth
